Château de La Valouze
About the Chateâu
Chateâu de la Valouze is located in one of the most beautiful regions of South France, Dordogne, and sits in 84 acres of parkland. It was built for Baron Gustave Arlot de Saint-Saud, the baron of the land, and formerly belonged to the family of art gallery owners of Paul Durand-Ruel. Being the first to support artists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, he is known for his innovations in modernizing art markets, and is generally considered to be the most important art dealer of the 19th century. According to the chateau’s website, he ‘invented’ Impressionist art and brought it into mainstream popularity.
The vast estate of the castle consists of sprawling lawns and woods that contain cypress trees, ginkgo, eucalyptus, and oaks. The park features one of the oldest oak trees in France, 400 years old, and an outdoor swimming pool with its pool house. When driving up to the chateau, you will drive through the main gate along a beautiful tree-lined street that leads to the buildings. There grounds also feature a lake, a bamboo forest, and tennis courts. There is a town nearby (La Roche Chalais) within walking distance that has several restaurants and a grocery store.

Accommodations at the Chateâu
We estimate that the chateau grounds will likely provide enough accommodations for all of our guests, as it holds up to 96 people on site. Within the chateau itself, we will host immediate family and the wedding party. The grounds hold several options for your accommodations, which will be first come first serve, following receipt of your RSVP. We will give priority to those that are staying the full 3-nights, so make sure to let us know specifically if you can only stay for 1 or 2 nights.
Some of the facilities outside of the chateau do not have WIFI within range, but you are always welcome inside the chateau at any point, where it is available. Breakfast will be held inside the chateau’s main dining room. The chateau has several common areas to hang out, including two kitchens, jazz bar, micro casino, laundry room, library, lounge, dining room, common restrooms on each floor, and hunting lodge. Please note the the facilities will not have air conditioning (typical of France), but fans will be provided in case the weather is hot. Click here to view the floor plan.
Upon your arrival at the chateau, you will be guided to the Orangerie, which is a small building on the grounds that has been converted to a check in reception area. From there, a chateau staff member will guide you to your accommodations for the stay.
The Bungalows
The bungalows are located in the park and are essentially stand-alone rooms near the chateau. There are 22 in total - 18 have a one queen bed (2 people), 1 has two queen beds in two rooms (4 people) and 3 have a single twin bed (1 person). They each have an ensuite bathroom with a shower. These are newer, built within the last two years, and the interiors are spacious and beautiful, similar to a modern hotel room. They’re located just a short walk from the chateau. Wifi may not be in range. For rental, the stay is a minimum of 2 nights.
If you plan to bring your young children to this event, it is recommended that you reserve a bungalow, as the chateau has a lot of steep staircases and can be somewhat of a labyrinth - it’s easy for young children to get lost. The bungalows are also a bit more modern and spacious than the rooms in the chateau, which will allow for extra cots/rollaways.
The Sisley Apartment
The Apartment holds a maximum of 7 people, is conveniently located within the stable block, and has recently undergone a recent complete refurbishment, restoring all its original charm. The Apartment includes a large reception with modern open plan and fully equipped kitchen. There are two floors with 4 bedrooms - 3 are double beds, and one is a single bed, all with ensuite bathrooms. Enjoy luxury comfort and privacy right in the heart of the park. It includes: ensuite showers and private toilets, kitchen, lounge, dining and utility room. Wifi is available. The stay is a minimum of 2 nights. Click here for more info.
